Holy Church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos in the Settlement of Agios Ioannis

Since the mid-1960s, residents of Agios Ioannis have been active through the Association of Employees of the Settlement of Nea Krini “Agios Ioannis”. In 1965, in a letter to the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, they stressed the immediate need to build a church in their newly built settlement. The reasons given were the expected increase in the population in the area, the lack of public transportation, which made it difficult during the winter to access the nearest church of Agia Paraskevi, and finally the activity of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the area, which worried the members of the association about the possibility of conversion. The church was founded in 1983 and opened its doors on May 24, 1987. It was expanded in 2009 and from a two-aisled to a three-aisled one.
