Holy Metropolis (Cathedral) of Nea Krini and Kalamaria

It was founded in 1974. For reasons of historical continuity and memory, the title of the cathedral first has the name of Nea Krini in memory and continuity of the Holy Metropolis of Krini and Aeneos of Asia Minor. The first Metropolitan was Prokopios Georgandopoulos, from 1974 to 2015 and after his death, he was succeeded by Ioustinos Bardakas of Asia Minor origin.

The refugees of all the settlements of Kalamaria considered that the construction of a church was one of their basic and primary needs. Initially, they used makeshift shelves, in which they deposited sacred relics, such as images and sacred vessels that they had brought from their particular homelands. It is therefore worth mentioning in more detail the temples that were built after the settlement of the first refugees, but also after the post-colonization.
