Nea Krini is a district of Kalamaria. It was founded by Greek refugees after the Asia Minor catastrophe by Cesme in Asia Minor. Historically, its inhabitants are engaged in fishing, as it borders the sea front of Kalamaria.
It’s named Byzantium because of the Greek refugees who settled in the area at the beginning of the 20th century.
It began to be built in 1958 and inhabited in 1962. The first houses began to be built near the settlement in 1970. Since the beginning of 2000 there has been a huge reconstruction in Agios Ioannis where the Historical Archive of Refugee Hellenism of Kalamaria is located.
The first coastal settlement on the beach after the Government is Neo Katirli which is defined by the beach, Chili Street, Mourouzidon Street and Kouri-Katirli Street (today Ioanni Pasalidi Street).
The whole area of the settlement Votsi, as well as its neighbors, were fields of the Pylaiotes (Kapoutzidians) and a Turkish tsiflika, of Hamdis Bey.
